With its multicultural focus, this book not only brings women of colour and lesbians into our picture of eating problems, but also clears up many demeaning and sexist ideas about these problems among white women. By revealing how these girls and women use eating to "make a way outa no way", it dispels popular stereotypes of anorexia and bulimia as symptoms of vanity and stresses the risks of mislabelling what is often a way of coping with society's own disorders. Based on in-depth life history interviews with African-American, Latina, and lesbian women, this book chronicles the effects of racism, poverty, sexism, acculturation, and sexual abuse on women's eating patterns and bodies.

The prince and the pauper novel7/6/2023 Clemens traveled around the American West, working as a miner and gathering inspiration for his fiction. When the Civil War broke out in 1861, Clemens briefly joined the Confederacy but quickly changed his mind and moved to Nevada to work for his other brother. As much as he loved writing, Clemens dreamed of being a steamboat pilot on the Mississippi River and successfully earned his license with the help of another pilot named Horace E. The articles were a success, and Clemens went on to write for major publications in Philadelphia, St. Clemens left school after the fifth grade to work as a typesetter and it was at this time that he began submitting articles and sketches to the newspapers. Tragedy struck in 1847 when John Clemens died, leaving Jane and their children to struggle to make enough money. Clemens loved his home near the Mississippi River-later, his childhood in Hannibal would be the inspiration for The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. The Clemens family moved from Florida, Missouri to Hannibal, Missouri when Clemens was four years old. Unfortunately, only three of Clemens’s siblings survived to adulthood. Samuel Clemens was the sixth of seven children born to Jane and John Marshall Clemens.

Sourdough a novel7/5/2023 Plummer creates deceptively familiar accents for the brothers, and the audiobook producers enhance the effect by creating dreamlike Mazg hold music that plays every time Lois Clary calls the brothers' restaurant for takeout. You know the Mazg, right? Those people who live in anonymous communities all over the world, generally on second floors? They are apt to relocate frequently, and their legends, lives and traditions involve yeast, food and music. Critical to the plot are two Mazg brothers, Beoreg and Chaiman. Therese Plummer, veteran narrator of more than 300 audiobooks, brings a delightfully loopy creativity to the delightfully loopy novel "Sourdough," a story built around a mysterious sourdough starter.
